something inside me
wakes when I’m alone.
tugs me across oceans
to lands unknown.
I feel the pressure
the pull in my bones.

something inside me
Just a quick little post to let y’all know what’s going on with me lately.
I’ve finally gotten a job that makes me happy and is earning me good money, I’m back living with my family for a while, and I’ve finally caved and joined the Apple tribe with my new iPhone 5.
And now that I have an appliance that actually allows me to download apps that work (praise the lord) I might actually be more inclined to blog because it’ll be heaps easier.Антилопа

When I came travelling, do you know what I thought? I thought, yay! I’m going to make so many friends on this trip! We can talk on the bus, or train, or even the plane (once I’m done freaking out over takeoff) and then we can swap blog sites, Facebooks and Skype names. I am going to meet so many cool people who love travelling!
Hahaha x a million.
The long and short of it is, I was wrong. Or at least, I have been so far.
So I’ve recently (in the last half an hour) decided that I can’t wait to get out of Australia! This is mainly due to one lovely event that happened on my lunch break at work just now.
I took a lovely walk and what did I come across? None other than the lovely Pseudechis porphyriacus, or Red-bellied Black Snake if you’re not into Latin. Now, this lovely little beast is a native Australian snake (and yes, there is also a North American species by the same name) and luckily for me, has a habitat on the eastern coast of Australia. Whilst it’s not actually deadly to humans, and bites are easily treated, it’s still not fun to run into a 2m long creature just sliding all over the path!
Before I ran past (I’ll admit, there was a little screaming) I got brave enough to take a photo. Check it out.
In addition to this lovely thing, Australia is also full of other nasty snakes, bugs, jellyfish, and in the depths of the ocean off our coast, we have the lovely Blobfish.
Attractive, no? No, I didn’t think so.
I’ve just Googled to see if there’s any more nasty animals I should inform you about, and what should I find other than a page titled “Australian Animals – Natural Born Killers” How nice!
And you know what it reminded me of? The nasty little baby-thieves we have, called dingoes. If you’re not Australian and have never heard the phrase “A dingo ate my baby” then take a look at this article.
And the box jellyfish! Who fancies going for a swim and trying to stay on the lookout for a tiny little clear jellyfish that’s only 2.5 cm big. Good luck, I’ll be on the beach drinking soda while you play hide and seek!
I honestly didn’t mean to start this post as a “down with Australia” type of thing, so I apologise for that. Whilst I do love my country, the spiders, bugs, snakes and 166 sharks that live off our coasts are seriously not nice!
Bring on Asia and some tigers please. They’re not slimy, they don’t look miserable or steal babies (as far as I know) and I can see them coming! Plus my family will have an awesome story to tell if I don’t run fast enough.
